Albert and the Gang

On this intense journey the train stopped every four hours for up to 20 minutes allowing new passengers to embark and hostages like ourselves to stock up on noodles and pringles. There were usually baboushkas lined up selling different things, they were very persistant and even stood by the train door shoving items in our faces. They sold everything from noodles to jeans. At these stops the drug lords sold their smuggled goods out of the train window. We never managed to stay out for very long due to the intense cold but enough to get properly assaulted by venders.

On day three, whilst stocking up on our usual tube of pringles, we bumped into Jared, an Australian 23 year old who ended up being our saviour in time of need. We spent time with him after getting dead sick of our group. Travelling and living on top of the same people for two weeks is bound to end in hatred, so it was nice to meet some new people. Jared was in a carriage with a fat Russian man, a family of Mongols and Polish man named Voytek Hellinsky who was travelling with his girlfriend. Hell-in-sky was an interesting man to say the least. 40 years old with a daughter our age and a girlfriend aged 22. He was in a rock band, jazz band and theatre company. Mr. Hellinsky travelled around Poland performing shows and theatre performances. He took a lot of pictures of us and got quite creepy after a while.

Our next friend came to be called Albert. He was an ice cold black man who liked to hang out on the inside of our cabin window. Albert is in fact the pile of snow that grew larger and gradually more black as the days went on.
